At TRACA, our mission is to build a transparent and verifiable platform for climate action. This mission is only possible through partnerships with dedicated, on-the-ground organizations that are leading the charge for a greener, more sustainable future. Today, we are proud to shine a spotlight on our key partner in Tanzania, the Mikoko Development Foundation (MDF).
Based in Tanzania, MDF is a non-governmental organization committed to community-led ecosystem restoration. Their flagship initiative, the
Green Mission Project (2025-2026), is a pilot program designed to inform a broader national engagement with the goals of the AFR100 and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This project is built on two integrated pillars:
- Terrestrial Restoration: Focusing on dryland forests, degraded farmland, and community greening.
- Marine & Coastal Restoration: Concentrating on mangrove rehabilitation and blue carbon ecosystems.
A Vision for Restoration and Community Empowerment
MDF’s work goes far beyond simply planting trees. It is a holistic approach rooted in scientific principles, ethical standards, and community empowerment. The foundation’s policies ensure that all restoration work adheres to global frameworks, including the IUCN’s 6 Principles of Ecological Restoration and Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for climate resilience. A core principle of their work is the respect for local communities and the use of
Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) to ensure that communities are not just beneficiaries, but active co-creators of the solutions. This includes involving women, youth, and other marginalized groups in the restoration labor and knowledge-sharing.
By the end of the pilot phase in 2026, the Green Mission Project aims to have planted over
100,000 trees, including 40,000 mangroves and 60,000 terrestrial trees. This effort is projected to offset an estimated
2,166 tons of CO₂ annually and create at least 18 direct jobs in rural communities.
The project also includes critical social components, such as training over 120 farmers in agroecology, establishing outdoor learning programs in 30+ schools, and engaging more than 50,000 students in environmental education.

The TRACA x MDF Partnership
Our partnership with MDF is built on a shared commitment to transparency and measurable impact. MDF’s on-the-ground expertise in restoration and community engagement is complemented by TRACA’s platform, which provides transparent auditing and public verification.
Through this collaboration, we will be able to provide our supporters with verifiable metrics and geo-tagged tree locations. This means that every contribution to a Green Mission project through TRACA will have a clear, traceable, and publicly visible impact. We are excited to work together to showcase how local initiatives can connect with global industry to create tangible climate action.
As we move forward with the launch of our Kickstarter campaign, we are confident that the incredible work of the Mikoko Development Foundation will serve as a powerful example of what is possible when community-led action is supported by innovative technology and a shared commitment to a sustainable future.
