Making climate action visible – that’s the mission of TRACA. In just a few weeks, our Kickstarter campaign will go live to achieve two goals: further development of the TRACA platform and large-scale mangrove reforestation in Tanzania. Learn how you can already be part of the movement and plant one tree for €15 – transparently tracked and verified.

Why this article?

If you want to support the visibleRuhr eG strategy.
If you care about the UN Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals – especially Climate Action (SDG 13) and Quality Education (SDG 4).

👉 Then this is for you.

TRACA – Transparency and Climate Action

TRACA is a digital platform designed to make climate action honest, visible, and verifiable. Whenever a tree is planted or a household in Africa switches from charcoal to cooking on a more efficient stove, TRACA ensures that the impact is measured precisely and documented transparently. This means climate protection no longer relies on vague promises. Instead, everyone can see what has been done, how it was achieved, and how much CO₂ has actually been saved.

Think of TRACA as a climate ledger – a kind of bank statement for CO₂. Every contribution, every project, and every verified result is recorded, stored, and made accessible on a blockchain. This creates trust for people who want to support projects they can truly believe in and ensures that every effort makes a measurable difference.

TRACA is not a label or a closed certification system. It is the digital backbone of credible climate protection: standardized, open, and transparent. By providing a trusted infrastructure for climate action, TRACA strengthens global efforts to reduce emissions and ensures that every action counts – visibly and verifiably.

The Kickstarter Campaign

Kickstarter is one of the world’s leading crowdfunding platforms, where people come together to support projects they believe in. Instead of buying a finished product, backers pledge their support upfront and receive a symbolic or tangible reward in return. In our case, the reward is as direct and meaningful as it gets: for every contribution amount of 15 Euro, a tree will be planted.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used in two ways: two-thirds will go to visibleRuhr eG to further develop the TRACA platform, and one-third will go directly to our partner, Mikoko Development Foundation (MDF), in Tanzania. This ensures that each pledge not only supports the technology for transparent climate accounting but also contributes to real, tangible reforestation on the ground.

Mikoko Development Foundation (MDF)

Mikoko Development Foundation is a non-governmental organization based in Tanzania that has been working since 2006 to protect and restore mangrove forests and to empower the communities living around them. Mangroves are among the planet’s most powerful climate protectors: they capture up to four times more carbon than tropical rainforests, they shield coastlines from erosion, and they provide vital habitats for fish, birds, and other wildlife.

MDF combines conservation with community development. The organization plants trees, builds nurseries and seed banks, and trains local farmers in sustainable practices such as agroforestry and carbon farming. At the same time, MDF invests in education, youth programs, and women’s empowerment, making sure that environmental action goes hand in hand with social progress.

Over the years, MDF has planted more than a million trees, supported over 1,500 schools and 1,700 teachers, and engaged more than 150,000 children and young people in environmental education. Its vision for the coming years is ambitious: to plant half a million additional mangroves, reach one million more trees, and sequester over 1.5 million tons of CO₂ by 2030.

visibleRuhr eG and TRACA

visibleRuhr eG is a cooperative based in Germany that develops TRACA – the platform at the heart of this campaign. TRACA acts like a climate ledger, ensuring that every climate action is measured, verified, and made visible to everyone. With the funds from Kickstarter, visibleRuhr will further develop TRACA’s infrastructure: expanding its audit system, enhancing transparency tools, and ensuring that projects worldwide can be documented with the same credibility and trust.

This way, each tree planted in Tanzania is not only growing in the ground – it also appears in the digital system, where its climate impact is tracked, stored, and secured on the blockchain.

What happens with your contribution

When you pledge to this campaign, your contribution has two effects at once. It strengthens TRACA as the global backbone for transparent climate action, and it plants real mangroves in Tanzania through MDF. In return, you receive a unique reward: a verifiably planted tree, transparent documentation of its impact in the TRACA system, and a place in a global community that connects education with climate action.

visibleRuhr eG – How we will use the funds

The share of the campaign that goes to visibleRuhr eG will be invested in expanding and professionalizing the TRACA platform. The first step is the implementation of a project registration system and the programming of a standardized inventory dataset, tested with our pilot partner, Mikoko Development Foundation. This will be followed by a test phase of technological audits, allowing us to verify climate impacts not only through manual reports but also via digital tools.

A key milestone is the integration of blockchain into the existing TRACA.cloud infrastructure, ensuring that every climate action recorded is immutable and transparent. In this process, we are also exploring whether TRACA should evolve into its own digital asset or cryptocurrency, or whether the blockchain should remain a purely technical layer for transparency and trust.

In parallel, we are developing a user-friendly inventory app that allows project partners in the field to capture their climate activities directly on site. A new website will provide a modern interface for partners, supporters, and the wider community. Finally, part of the funds will go into marketing to grow the TRACA.CLUB, our international community of supporters who want to combine climate action with education and transparency.
